King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King
I’ve just completed remixing King Crimson’s In the Court of the Crimson King for its 40th anniversary reissue, now available in new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes. Recorded over 10 days in August 1969 and released that October, this album is a landmark in British rock and one of the most remarkable debut albums ever. Pete Townshend called it “an uncanny masterpiece,” and its enduring popularity is clear—it’s never been out of print and continues to sell strongly worldwide. For me, working on this record has been a chance to dive into a pivotal moment in music, capturing King Crimson’s extraordinary first year, from their earliest rehearsals in January 1969 to their Hyde Park show with The Rolling Stones, through to the breakup of the original lineup after their U.S. tour in December.
Thankfully, the tapes for In the Court were well-preserved, unlike some later albums, letting me build a master that feels true to what the band recorded in 1969.
