Ultravox - Vienna
Ultravox‘s classic 1980 album Vienna album is to be reissued in October for its 40th anniversary as a 5CD+DVD box set that includes my new stereo and 5.1 mixes (including all related B-sides). Produced by the legendary Conny Plank, the album was the band’s first to feature Midge Ure on lead vocals, and originally peaked at number 3 in the UK album chart. The title track was famously thwarted from reaching the top of the singles chart by a novelty song, but has since gone on to become one of the most iconic and famous songs of the eighties, performed by the band at Live Aid in 1985, and most recently featured so effectively in the climactic episode of American Crime Story - The Assassination of Gianni Versace (a must see if you haven't already).
The six-disc box set features 66 tracks, 44 of which are previously unreleased recordings or mixes. As well as my new stereo mix, it includes the original (and brilliant) stereo mix newly mastered from production tapes, live and rehearsal recordings, and single and 12 inch tracks.
This 5CD+DVD comes packaged in a 12″ x 12″ rigid slipcase and includes a 20-page large format booklet featuring notes from the band, unseen photos from Midge Ure’s and Chris Cross’ personal collection, four A4 art prints.
