XTC - Psurroundabout Ride
The sixth entry in a series of stereo / 5.1 surround sound remixes of the XTC catalogue is the complete works of the band masquerading as their sixties psychedelic alter-egos The Dukes of Stratosphear. Psurroundabout Ride contains my 2019 mixes of their 2 original albums 25'O Clock (1985) and Psonic Psunspot (1987), and will be released on 11th October.
Both albums were originally produced by John Leckie and released either side of the band's classic 1986 album Skylarking. With the benefit of hindsight it's easy to see a strong sense of musical similarity and continuity between the Dukes and XTC proper, with the band even holding over material written for 25'O Clock for Skylarking. These days I think most people simply consider them to be 2 more brilliant XTC albums in a virtually flawless catalogue, which makes this once again - in my opinion - an essential release.
As with all the other releases in the series, this is a virtual box set on a single (blu-ray) disc - compare the list of contents below with many multi disc sets that retail for 10 times the price!
